Dear Digital Diary | Keeping It Cool In Quarantine

Dear Digital Diary,

Everyone has been impacted by what has been happening in the world right now. I have people around me that have lost their jobs, that are questioning finances, and stressing over college. Everyone has a different story and I wanted to put a helpful voice out there for those who are dealing with many life changes and challenges at the moment.

Luckily, one of my neuroscience classes had an article assignment in which I chose the topic of mental health during a pandemic. Here are some of the tips, plus a couple of mine, that I have summarized in order to hopefully make our time at home a bit more bearable.

Be Productive + Set A Checklist

Like many people, my everyday schedule has been thrown off.

"Keeping a list, or sticking to schedule, can really keep the momentum going."

This has really helped me with keeping track of of my online college work, filming videos and writing my blog posts. Trust me, I would love to just chill and not do anything, but right now I feel like I should put all this free time to good use. I LOVE the satisfaction of getting things done.

Start Some Goals + Clear Up Your Space

Since I've had more time on my hands I've invested my free time into reading a few books, doing some writing and getting into a few shows. I even got into an exercise routine with my boyfriend. Also, now that that I have all this time on my hands, I have cleared up some of the clothes out of my closet.

"I've organized clothes and shoes in bags to do clothing swaps with my friends, safely, or to donate at a later date."

Now that we have all this time on our hands I think it would be great to start some good habits.

Have Time For Yourself

I know that staying at home, for long periods of time, with the SAME PEOPLE can be REALLY FRUSTRATING!

"Separating yourself for a bit from your family can be very necessary to keep you sane."

Pop on some headphones and vibe with some music, go on your back porch and read a book, or find a place in your house to do some meditating. However you unwind just know that it's important to have some time for yourself.

Stay Updated, But Not Obsessed

It is VERY important to stay informed with what's happening with this pandemic. However, do not let the news saturate your mind with negativity and hopelessness. You have to have optimism and hope during this time.

"I know so many people, including myself and my family, that have been impacted by what's going on."

If the news and social media outputs are getting to be too much, I wouldn't blame you if you had to unplug for a while.

Check On Your Friends + Family

Not everyone has adjusted to their life at home. My mother and I are essential workers and we are so thankful that we still have an income.

"In this time of uncertainty my mom and I have been checking on our family members and friends frequently."

A few of my friends are also essential workers and I myself have volunteered some of my time to help those in need. If you can help in any way, by being safe as well, I recommend that you do. We're all in this together.

Thank you guys for reading!

How do you guys keep a productive front? Let me know on my social platforms!

Hang In There,

Camille
