Hello! Hope you're all doing great!
This is a new blog series that I want to start! It focuses on different songs that collectively meant something under a certain topic. Now I know that there are MANY songs that can go under this category, but these are the ones that have been speaking to me at the moment.
Here are a few songs that I have listened and reflected on along with the life lessons that come with it!
Andy Mineo | None of My Business
First of all, I thought I would start off strong with this song. Second of all, Andy Mineo is a great music artist and you haven’t heard the song “Coming in Hot” with Andy Mineo and Lecrae, or any of his other works, then YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! When I first listened to this song I would scream after every line, because every word that he spoke was literally FIRE!!!
To get to the point, song talks about not caring about people who don’t care about you. It also talks about just minding your own business.
This has been something that has been somewhat hard for me to learn. To be honest, I'm a people pleaser. You just have to except the fact that not everybody’s going to like you. That’s just honestly a hard concept to except for people like me.
“Yeah, if you don't like me, that's your problem
When I let it bother me, that's my problem
And I've got enough problems, I got enough
I got the sauce, you got the salt
What I care what you think about me
'Cause I don't think about you at all
Real ones, they don't talk about you, they talk to you”
This song also talks about how you shouldn’t be judging people in the first place. Who are you to criticize because you yourself aren’t that perfect either. To put the title of the song plainly it’s really none of my business.
“You supposed to own a company
Instead you just sitting on your derriere
In a pair of your boxers playing Warfare on your XBOX
You work at a pet shop, still couldn't feed your terrier
And on top, what's scarier is
How you've been engaged for ten years
And still haven't married her (err)
My bad, I got sidetracked, look at me getting hypocrite, huh
How I criticize them when I got my own thing to be fixing?”
He speaks the TRUTH!!! Listen to the song and also checkout Andy Mineo and all of his other great work!

Alessia Cara | Easier Said
This song is one of those really deep ones.
I also want to say that Alessia Cara is probably one of my favorite music artists. Her voice is compelling and her lyrics relate to me so well. A few of her songs are in this blog post actually. Her songs talk about very real concepts in our lives, and this is one of the many songs that needs to be recognized as a very important life lesson to learn.
This song talks about coping and how you should never feel pressured to bounce back from something that you’re still taking the time to really grieve over properly. It’s OK to be sad!
"Healing and patience are lovers
Don't place the blame on your heart, just to make 'em stop
Just take your time to recover
'Cause it's easier said, it's easier said than done"
Sometimes it’s really hard to know what to say or do when somebody’s getting over something really hard. They could’ve lost someone close to them or they’re simply going through a pretty rough time. Honestly the best thing you can do is just be there for them and to simply just listen. Usually, when one of my friends is going through something, I try to do simple things like getting them food or maybe just simply being a shoulder to cry on.
"So what if you're a bit bitter before you reach us
I mean, I spend my days complaining to a guitar
Remember everyone is coping with their own scars
And just a little bit of time can get you so far, yeah"
It’s also really important to find ways to cope while you’re in these moments of sadness and grief. This song only touches the tip of the iceberg on how we should process sadness in a healthy way. Sadness is a natural emotion and we as a society shouldn’t view these emotions as taboo.

Niki Demar | 9 Lives
Niki Demar actually started off as a YouTuber and has now added music artist to her many career descriptions. In recent years, she has really dived into her music career, and I really think she’s in it to win it.
I love how Niki writes her songs! I would not be surprised if one her songs hits the billboard. There are a multitude of songs that I love from her including “25” and “Bite of Me”. If you don’t know about her, please take some time to give her a listen.
This song talks about how life will knock you down, people will break your heart, and will disappoint you. It may be difficult but have to learn to pick yourself right back up.
"I’ve had a string of narcissists
Losers, liars, idiots
I can’t take 'em serious (Serious)
I’m not gonna waste time and cry about (Cry about)
All the shit I can't figure out (Figure out)
Everytime they up and leave
I’m not out here losing sleep
I’ll get it right eventually (Eventually)
I'm not gonna let all this bad luck (Bad luck)
Make me build my walls up (Walls up)"
When this song came out, I really took time to read into the lyrics. I take everyone’s opinions into consideration. Sometimes I take other’s words a bit too much into consideration. A way that I’ve combated this is thinking that, in more times than none, I probably won’t see these people ever again. Soon they really will be just a memory so why should their words really matter.
"I've tolerated lonely nights
Full of fake friends and white lies
F*ck it they're not worth my time
I don't let these soul suckers cling to me
Soon they'll be just a memory
So come and devastate me
I may fall to my knees
For a day or a week but
Nothing can hold me back
Yeah I find the good in the bad, yeah"
Concluding, go listen to this song and add it to your motivation playlist!

Olivia Rodrigo | jealousy, Jealousy
Olivia Rodrigo!
If you don’t know her name by now, then I really don’t know what to tell you boo. Her songs have been overnight successes with some of them hitting number 1 and is now a Grammy award winning artist. Mind you she did all of this all before the age of 20! Like c’mon, you have to know “Driver’s License” and “Good for You”?
This song in particular that i want to discuss is called “jealousy, jealousy” and talks about how in this modern age of social media how people set such unrealistic beauty standards.
“I kinda wanna throw my phone across the room
'Cause all I see are girls too good to be true
With paper-white teeth and perfect bodies
Wish I didn't care
I know their beauty's not my lack
But it feels like that weight is on my back
And I can't let it go”
This song hits really deep for me. During my teen years I would look at myself in the mirror and wonder what things I could change constantly. All the editing, diet plans, and beauty expectations are all something that I knew about, but I never really knew how much it all really impacted me.
I remember when I stopped wearing makeup for 2 weeks and how much of a learning journey that was to accept how beautiful I naturally was.
“All your friends are so cool, you go out every night
In your daddy's nice car, yeah, you're livin' the life
Got a pretty face, a pretty boyfriend, too
I wanna be you so bad and I don't even know you
All I see is what I should be
Happier, prettier, jealousy, jealousy
All I see is what I should be
I'm losin' it, all I get's jealousy, jealousy”
I feel like comparison is a human thing to do, but it starts getting dangerous when what you’re comparing yourself to is sometimes unnatural and maybe even unrealistic.

Harry Styles | Treat People with Kindness
Harry Styles. Need I say more?
I'm pretty sure everyone can say that Harry Styles can make some damn good music. I've been listening to his newest album "Harry's House" on repeat! Love "Matilda", "Late Night Talking", and of course "As It Was".
There are so many songs that really hit deep, but this time I want to talk about this song in particular. This song is off the album "Fine Line", and it basically explains itself with the title.
This is a slogan on how people should live and how you should treat people with kindness and how it puts you in a state of peace and goodness.
"Maybe we can
Find a place to feel good
And we can treat people with kindness
Find a place to feel good
Giving second chances
I don't need all the answers
Feeling good in my skin
I just keep on dancin'"
I love what the second verse says! It makes me think about if I'm ever in conflict with anyone about how we should just accept the fact that sometimes we will never understand. We need to move on, put the past in the past, and extend the olive branch. It takes a lot of maturity to understand this but, in the end, it makes you feel at peace. It makes you feel good in your own skin.

Joy Crookes | Feet Don't Fail Me Now
Last, but not least, Joy Crookes.
Joy Crookes is a 23-year-old, U.K. singer-songwriter with English and Bangladeshi roots. You simply just have to listen to her and how much a unique sound she adds to the music industry.
This song is very dense and comes off of her album "Skin". She explains, on her social media and in interviews, that this song was written on how she felt during the Black Lives Matter protests. Here is what she had to say on Twitter when she was writing this song...
"‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ is a song I wrote in light of the political events of last year. It’s written from the perspective of someone who finds it easier to remain complicit out of fear of speaking up and what those consequences might be. I think the chorus is universal and I hope it can be a call to action. We are all guilty of being this character. Ultimately I hope the song encourages people to be a bit braver – it’s important to open up a dialogue, speak out, make mistakes – that’s okay and that’s how progress happens." -Joy Crookes via Twitter
"I've been posing with red skies
Retweeting picket signs
Put my name on petitions, but I won't change my mind
I'm keeping up appearances
The dark side of my privilege
Damn, thank God I've got my vice
The dopamine tuition will keep me wrong from right
But I don't like when my better side takes hold of me
I didn't want you to know
Man, I guess I was scared
Feet, don't fail me now
I got to stand my ground
And though I'm down for trying
I am better in denial"
Sometimes it can be scary to stand up for what you think is right. It's alright to make mistakes but that how we progress. This is a universal theme of life. If you stand by and do nothing, or blindly agreeing just to agree, you are contributing to stopping change from happening. Stand up for what you believe in, even if it might be scary!
